WickFest: World Female Hockey Festival - Calgary, Alberta
In 2017 HockeyShot was happy to provide some of its products at the 29th annual Canadian Tire Wickenheiser World Female Hockey Festival, a.k.a. WickFest. The next WickFest is coming up in November 2018, taking place in Calgary, Alberta, at the Winter Sports Institute at Canada Olympic Park, once home to the 1988 Winter Olympics. This year the festival is partnered with Girls Hockey Calgary and is poised to be the most exciting year yet!
WickFest will be hosted for the 9th time by the legendary Hayley Wickenheiser, the first woman to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie. She has represented Canada in the Winter Olympics five times, capturing four gold and one silver medal. In addition, she was named tournament MVP twice. She is tied with teammates Caroline Ouellette and Jayna Hefford for the record for the most gold medals of any Canadian Olympian, and is widely considered the greatest female ice hockey player in the world.
Over the course of two four-day weekends in November 2,000+ players come together to compete and connect while building positive female hockey experiences across all levels. Past guests include Country music superstar Dean Brody, Natalie Spooner, Meaghan Mikkelson, Kyle Shewfelt, Erica Wiebe, Stephanie Labbé and international dignitaries.
The game of female hockey has been played for more than 100 years, and has been growing exponentially since 1990, the year of the first official women’s world championship. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. HockeyShot is proud to support the growth of Women’s Hockey in Canada. The women's game is based on speed, skill and finesse and creates a family-friendly environment where access to heroes is very possible.
Canada West female hockey programs are supported across Western Canada including at University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Mount Royal University, University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan and University of Manitoba. These programs, along with multiple others throughout the rest of Canada and the world, help to bring the sport of Women’s Hockey to anyone.
WickFest is more than just a competition, it is truly a hockey festival. Aside from HockeyShot demonstrating some of its best-selling Premium Lineup products, there are also a multitude of workshops, clinics, and prize giveaways that will take place. These will be delivered throughout the weekend featuring high-profile and world-renowned coaches, athletes and experts from around the world.
